Candida

For most of the 20th Century, CANDIDA was one of Bernard Shaw's most beloved, most produced plays. Katharine Cornell did it on Broadway at least four times between 1924 and 1946 and can be heard doing it on the radio on Archive.org. It is astounding, as many times as other Shavian plays have been filmed that CANDIDA has only been filmed in the playwright's original language this once (based on a solid - and most recent save one - Broadway revival at the Circle In The Square Theatre in 1981) and IT has not been formally issued on video! Headlining Joanne Woodward in the title role and the illustrious Jane Curtin as "Prossie" (Miss Proserpine Garnett, the reverend's secretary/housekeeper) this production cries out for DVD release.
