    Insane, Nippon-style, Aussie "pink" film

Without a doubt this is one of the weirdest films I've seen -- and I've seen plenty.

It's Japanese in its focus, subject matter and politics, but it was made in Australia by an Australian director whose other films don't come close to the insanity on screen here.

I'm not going to detail the plot, but let's just say that the original title is THE MASTURBATING GUNMAN. A gunman gets on the trail of kidnapped women he gets hired to locate by sniffing the crotches of their soiled underwear. The plot involves the gunman's search for a nun, his sister.

In one bravura sequence, the trapped gunman, inspired by his sister's panties, kills his enemies by firing large loads of his own acidic semen at them.

Similar structurally to RAPEMAN in that the gunman and his hunchbacked servant operate out of a legitimate office and offer their "find-a-girl" services as if they were offering carpet cleaning.

Like other Savage films, this is very well scored and beautifully photographed. All performances are deliberately "off" and the action sequences are lurid and bloody.

And amongst all the sleaze, there is a scene with a little girl and the gunman clearly inspired by James Whale's FRANKENSTEIN.

    It's that kind of movie!

Well, this movie is a special kind of special. It starts off boring enough, in that bad boring way that is, indeed bad, but debatable as to whether or not it's a good bad. But then... the flavors start developing and you realize: "Hey! I think we've got something here..." And indeed we do. If nothing else, we've got a great example of how God will never give a Nun more than she can handle. But its more than just a Nun taking matters into her own hands, or... never-mind. What I'm getting at, is that this movie has unique sensibilities, a unique way about it that is truly bad in a way that IS good. And so, here we are. Or, there we are? And so, here we go? There so are we and we here go! Yeah, that one.
