The movie features two "stories", but I didn't get much plot from either of them. They are apparently set two hundred years apart, but I couldn't tell that from the sets and costumes, which seem to stay the same.
The first story features a crazy, sadistic magistrate who eats live newts straight from a tank and whose bulging, crazy eyes make him look like an Asian version of the Western actor Jack Elam. This is probably the more violent story. The magistrate hates Christians, and a young girl is a Christian, so she gets tortured... but so do a bunch of other people. One guy gets his foot smashed with a hammer until it looks like mince meat with the bones left in it.
The second story was even harder to follow than the first. Something about a con-man who teams up with an escaped prostitute to scam people? Though how, I don't know. This at least had a memorable sequence in which a naked woman is tied up, painted with honey, and some adorable little puppies are let loose on her to lick it off. There's also a scene where people end up wallowing in diarrhoea for some reason.
I guess "Shogun's Sadism" is recommendable if you want to see scenes of torture. It's not interesting for any other purpose however.
