Shah Rukh Khan and Gayatri Joshi in Swades (2004)

Goofs

Swades

Edit

Continuity

In the book store where Mohan meets Geeta for the first time, while billing he mistakenly checks the price for Hindi book "Bal Bharti" and bills for Mathematics.

Factual errors

In the scene when Mohan Bhargava installs turbine for electricity generation, the turbine's blades are seen as "forward curved". However with forward curved blades, losses are significantly high and normally they are not used in turbines. Sometimes where they are used, an additional pressure turbine is used, but that was not there in the movie.
in the beginning, when they are showing the names of directors and then show the name of the movie in English, Hindi and Urdu, they make an error in spelling "swades", they spell it in a way that it would sound "sodes". They missed the alphabet "alif"
The Plough asterism is incorrectly described.
In the titles, Swades when written in Malayalam is read as 'Swadesa'.
In the movie, Khan's character wants to take his childhood nanny to the US with him. In reality, this wouldn't be possible. His nanny doesn't possess advanced degrees to be considered for an employment visa, nor could Khan's character sponsor her for a Green Card as she is not a blood relation. The most he could do is bring her on a tourist visa and that has high rates of cancellation for people who do not have significant ties to their home country.

Revealing mistakes

Mohan directly attaches the plug in the AC socket for the foot massager he brought from USA. In reality the plug standards of USA and India are different and will not fit in other country's socket. An adapter must be used for compatibility.
NASA scientists are to launch a space study satellite. But in the launch scene you can se a space shuttle launch. The shuttle is used to ferry astronauts to space.
In the beginning of the song "Yeh Raasta Hai"(after picking up the stranger en route to Charanpur), the song is shown as being played on the caravan's stereo. But in the shots of the media player, it doesn't display anything, indicating that it is actually not switched on.
In the satellite launch scene, the scientists turn an look towards the window for the actual space shuttle launch. But in reality the scientists will focus on their screens and instruments for space launch readings and data.

Errors in geography

When Mohan speaks to his colleague Vinod for the first time from postmaster's office in charanpur, the background shows daylight, also vinod's background shows broad daylight, however, due to geography, it should be night time, at one of the places.
During phone calls from India to USA, timezone changes are not reflected. You can see daylight on a call made in afternoon form India. Actually it should be midnight in USA.
