This Car Up

Predictable short about conservative office worker Pete (Michael Booth) meeting a punkish bicycle messenger named Adrian (Brent Doyle). They couldn't be more unalike but can't stop thinking about each other. It all ends in a yawningly predictable conclusion.

There's nothing wrong with a generic gay short like this but this one got on my nerves. It has FOUR screens throughout and trying to keep attention to all four was annoying and gave me a headache. The occasional clever mixing of images helped...but only a little. To make matters worse Booth and Doyle aren't exactly great actors. Predictable and dizzying. I can only give it a 4.

When an office worker and a bike messenger meet, they can't stop thinking about each other.

Shot mostly in split split screen we see the business man on the lower left the messenger on the lower right. Above each man is a screen with images from their minds.

One must pay attention in order to follow all of the activity at once and this would probably never work for a longer film but here the technique is well used to maintain interest, add a little humor and at times even foreshadow the plot.
