Story with both a Heart and a Mind ...

I didn't really know what to think of "Ayutha Ezuthu" after the first time that I saw it - I suppose I was expecting a much different movie - but after revisiting it, I really have come to appreciate and enjoy it. Mani Ratnam is really a director who understands characters and shapes them with such heart and soul. The real stand-out actor here for me is Madhavan, who portrays Inba, the street thug who aspires to overcome his low-life existence but does it in all the wrong ways. The nuances of his character really show, and the 180-degree reversal from what we are used to seeing him as makes his performance all the more appealing. And Bharathi Raja ... wow! He comes off as a cunning and very humorous villain, and the exchanges between Surya and him are certainly something to see. I would least expect Mani Ratnam to put out something with a political message, but he does it with grace and style. A big thumbs up!

    A Modern Cult Classic

If you have to name one Mani Ratnam's best movies what would it be? There is Mouna Ragam, Geethanjali, Agni Natchathiram, Nayakan, Anjali, Thalapathi, Roja, Bombay, Iruvar, Dil Se, Alai Payuthey, Kannathil Muthamittal, Guru, Raavanan, OK Kanmani, and Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. These are all one of India's best movies.

But what about Ayutha Ezhuthu? Who knew that Mani Ratnam created such a film? It is pretty underrated that not a lot of people talk about this movie nowadays even though this was a blockbuster hit at its time of release. This is something different and something new. Yes, this is inspired partly from Amores Perros but it is not a remake. The narrative style is something that made this film quite unique especially showing how the lives of three people would be connected following an incident. Suriya showed his best performance in this movie. This will be one of his best performances till date. I really liked the way how his character Michael is inspired by a prominent youth named George Reddy. Madhavan did a great job portraying a thug who worked for a politician. Siddharth of course gave his youthful presence as a careless high school teen. Meera Jasmine did a good job in portraying Inbasker's estrangled wife. I never knew Esha Deol is in this movie and her Tamil is pretty good. Trisha Krishnan of course is really gorgeous and would be one of the best actresses of India. And of course, P. Bharathiraja just gave an memorable presence as a politician the main antagonist in this movie.

A.R. Rahman and Mani Ratnam just show that they are one of the best teams in the world. A.R. Rahman gives different genres of music of this new millennial and an awesome BGM that suits well to this movie. He just really masters EDM and you would really love the acoustics. This is going to be one of his best works of all time.

Ayutha Ezhuthu would be counted as Mani Ratnam's best movies. This just something different from the masala blockbusters and what you call a true action movie. This is definitely a modern cult classic that will be remembered for many generations. This is a must watch for anyone interested in Indian movies and action fans. Definitely going to watch this a bunch of times.

Just say youthful,if you are an youth, you will suddenly feel it!

Before beginning,i like to say something to Mr Roby Kurian (USA) ,who reviewed earlier, Mr. you like to be proud finding similarities between movies, but i don't think you will never be satisfied watching movies,as you always look for similarities, not let yourself to enjoy the movie. Its not a remake of that Mexican film.

Now come to the movie. Here are few messages to the people, specially the youth. You will find it when watching the movie. Some of them may match with you also. The bullshit politics is dragged down here, and the new era in politics is also shown. It is the Student who have to make changes. They must. They are the mass who could save their nation. This movie reflects the present politics of south Asia region . Madhban,Surya,Sidarth...and..rest of them acted very well.

    Better than its Hindi version

Aayitha Ezhuthu is yet another class-A movie from Mani Ratnam. And please note that it is not a remake of the Mexican movie 'Amores Perros' as said by another user. If you had seen amores perros and understood the movie, you'd come to know that aayitha ezhuthu is completely different from it. There are many movie with the same theme - an incident making the characters meet, for eg. 21 grams which was released in 2000, long before amores perros concept was even conceived. So shall I call Amores perros a shameless remake of 21 grams - remove the authenticity, good actors, change the theme and voila!!! u get Amores perros???

    • Trivia
Initially, the movie was planned to be made without songs, and Mani Ratnam had roped in composer A.R. Rahman only for the background score. However, in due course, Rahman came up with a few tunes and harmonies which impressed Mani Ratnam so much that they ended up being placed as 6 songs in the film.
