The Circus Is Coming To Town

At the turn of the 20th century, the largest and most prosperous segment of show business was the traveling circus, and the Ringling Brothers' show was among the biggest. When they entered a town, a big part of the publicity was the parade of personnel and animals through the streets, giving the public a taste of what they might see for the price of a ticket: the crowned horses pulling extravagantly carved carriages of performers and cages of big cats, the camels, and of course the elephants. That's what you get here. It's a taste of a vanished world.
