Why women are evil

Morgret's "The Thing on the Doorstep", a pretty faithful adaptation of the short story by H. P. Lovecraft, is a chop to the cerebellum. From the opening gunshots to the sizzle of eyes at the end, it's a tumble into an increasingly paranoid fantasy manifested in a supernatural vein. In scenes of normalcy there are the surrealisms and in the most surreal moments can be found anchors of reality.

A taste of things to come!

This short film is based on my favorite Lovecraft story, so I was prepared to be angry with every change these guys made to the "utterly perfect" original tale. These guys won me over from the get-go. I accepted their changes because they fit the film, and I liked a number of the original ideas they wove into the storyline. Now I hear they are shooting a feature length film based on the same story! Not to diminish my respect for their short, but I can't wait to see what they are able to do with more time, more character development and more mood! This is a great example of a group of indie filmmakers daring to do what Hollywood fears to: adapt one of Lovecraft's finest stories in a way that is both entertaining and true to his intentions. Great job!

Job well done...

Maelstrom Productions' "The Thing On The Doorstep" is easily one of the better low budget Lovecraft adaptations out there. Die hard fans will surely enjoy this film. Though set in the modern day, I feel they still manage to capture the atmosphere and dread that permeates Lovecraft's original work. Most adaptations of Lovecraft's work retain little of the original story--this is not the case with 'Doorstep'. This film is very faithful to the original short story, and I must congratulate Eric, Kelly, and Parker for a job well done !!!
