Olive (4 years old)
- Adult Olive: Dear diary, I'm afraid I'm gravely ill. It is perhaps times like these that one reflects on things past. An article of clothing from when I was young. A green jacket. I walk with my father. A game we once played.
- Olive, Adult Olive: Pretend we're fairies. I'm a girl fairy. My name is Laura Lee.
- Adult Olive: And you're a boy fairy and your name is Teetery.
- Olive, Adult Olive: Pretend, when we're fairies we fight each other.
- Adult Olive: And I say, "Stop hitting me. I'll die!" And you hit me again and I say, "Now I have to die." And then you say...
- Adult Olive, Caden Cotard: "But I'll miss you."
- Adult Olive: And I say...
- Olive, Adult Olive: "But I *have* to...
- Adult Olive: And you'll have to wait a million years to see me again. And I'll be put in a box.
- Olive, Adult Olive: And all I'll need is a tiny glass of water and lots of tiny pieces of pizza and the box will have wings like an airplane."
- Adult Olive: And you ask, "Where will it take you?"
- Olive, Adult Olive: "Home."
- Adult Olive: I say.
- [first lines]
- Olive: [singing] There's a place I long to be, A certain town that's dear to me, Home to Mohawks And GE, It's called Schenectady, I was born there and I'll die there, My first home I hope to buy there, Have a kid or at least try there, Sweet Schenectady, And when I'm buried and I'm dead, Upstate worms will eat my head...
- Olive: Did you have to get a shot, Daddy?
- Caden Cotard: No, honey. It's the start of something awful.
- Olive: Do I have to get a shot?
- Caden Cotard: Course not.
- Olive: Did you tell him I have green poop?
