    • Trivia
Charles Tyner appeared with Ralph Waite in Cool Hand Luke (1967) and with Will Geer in Jeremiah Johnson (1972).
    • Goofs
In the scene where the Walton children are picking raspberries, the berries are obviously stuck onto the vines. Raspberries do not grow individually. They grown on the vine in clusters that hang. The ones in this scene appear to have been pierced by thorns or stems to keep them on the vine so that the actors can remove them.
    • Quotes

Narrator: [narration as John 'John Boy' Walton, Jr. reading from his journal] As close-knit and self-sufficient as our family was, still, neighbors were very important in those days when we were growing up on Waltons Mountain. There were families like ourselves, struggling to keep the land we owned, and there were tenant farmers at the mercy of the weather, crop prices and absentee landlords.
