- Anna Morgan: So, I have decided that I'm going to the dance.
- Sheila: Huh?
- Beth Morgan: Really? When did you decide this?
- Anna Morgan: During the last 15 minutes of math class. I was there done with my test and everyone else was still grinding it out, and I realized that I need more of a life. I mean, if I'm so understanding about why no boy is interested in me, I shouldn't not go to the dance because no boy is interested in me.
- Beth Morgan: You... You lost me at, "If I'm so understanding".
- Anna Morgan: It's all right. I'm not entirely clear on it myself. Let's just say that I decided to go. So I'm going.
- Beth Morgan: Wow. You're so decisive. You should be a judge or something.
- Anna Morgan: Or a dictator. An empress-conqueror in a wheelchair.
- Beth Morgan: Anna the Hun.
- Anna Morgan: Anna the Nun.
- Beth Morgan: Anna the Hun-Nun.
- Sheila: Wow. Anna, you have the best attitude for a girl whose life is just so terrible.
- [girls laugh]
- Sheila: Did I say something funny? I don't normally say something funny.
- Beth Morgan: It's your fault, you know.
- Anna Morgan: What?
- Beth Morgan: I mean, if I wasn't your sister, I would've grown up shallow like God intended me to be. I'd be happy as a pig in... well, sweat right now.
- Anna Morgan: Well, I'm sorry.
- Beth Morgan: I forgive you.
- Beth Morgan: [about the alarm] Oh, make it stop.
- Anna Morgan: Sorry. I just can't do it again today.
- Beth Morgan: Who are you talking to?
- Anna Morgan: God.
- Beth Morgan: Cool. Tell him I can't do it either.
- Anna Morgan: [turns off the alarm] I don't have to do this. Everyone would understand. I'll just stay in my room for the rest of my life, and write poetry like Emily Dickinson. All right. One more day and that's it. I mean it.
- Beth Morgan: God again?
- Anna Morgan: Yeah.
- Anna Morgan: Are you sure you want to turn your math sheet in with "Craig" doodled all over it?
- Beth Morgan: What? I mean, I know this thing for Craig isn't, like, love or anything. It's more like a...
- Anna Morgan: Addiction? Obsession? Psychosis?
- Beth Morgan: I was thinking "crush".
- Anna Morgan: Same thing.
- Beth Morgan: Crush sounds better.
- Anna Morgan: Puppy love?
- Beth Morgan: Makes me feel like I am six years old.
- Anna Morgan: Okay, fine. Stick with crush, then. I mean, crushes are acceptable at our age. Just don't have this crush child.
- Beth Morgan: I feel bad talking to you about this.
- Anna Morgan: Why? It's not like no one will ever love me, you know.
- Beth Morgan: Well, maybe you will meed somebody at the dance.
- Anna Morgan: It's a dance. People go there to dance. I think boys don't really take me for the dancing type anymore. I'm sorry. Sometimes I guess I'm not as okay with it as I think I am. But, hey, it's okay that you can walk. It's okay that you can dance. It's even okay if you get a better grade on this math test although I think the chances of that are pretty remote at this point.
- [bell rings]
- Anna Morgan: Oh, too late. See ya.
- Leslie Morgan: You're going to the dance?
- Anna Morgan: Didn't Dad tell you not to make a big deal about this?
- Leslie Morgan: Yes, but you know I don't listen to him.
- Anna Morgan: Well, maybe you should try it sometime.
- Leslie Morgan: Maybe when we're old. So, you're going. You sure this is a good idea? I mean, you should do this kind of thing eventually, but maybe this is pushing things a little too fast. I don't know. What do you think?
- Anna Morgan: I think that I'm going to the dance. It's not that big of a deal.
- Leslie Morgan: Okay. Okay, then.
- [hugs Anna]
- Anna Morgan: You know, this is just the corny reaction I was trying to avoid.
- Leslie Morgan: I can't help it.
- Anna Morgan: You know, Dad didn't hug me. He just gave me a pat and a wink. And he really wanted to hug me, I could tell.
- Leslie Morgan: Your father's stronger than I am. You tell him I said that, you die.
