My sister and I watch Stephen Yan's Cooking show everyday Monday To Friday on Omni 2 at around noon or 11:30 at night on Monday and Tuesday. I love the way that he's always telling these jokes that no one else gets but him. plus he laughs at them. and his laugh does sound goofy. And he has also the greatest Asian accent," Ohh isn't that interesting?" Just one of the things he says a lot. I also like how he is reading the fortune cookie at the end. I'm Chinese, so I can decipher what he says. And some of the Chinese he reads off of the fortune cookie is enough to make my gut explode. He also likes showing some clips of his travels and some of them show cool places around the world. There's this one clip where Yan's at Disneyland and he is wokking(cooking) with Mickey Mouse. And throughout the rest of that show he kept talking about how much of an honor it was. He even decorated the plate with an orange sculpted into the head of Mickey Mouse. I wish Yan would make more shows, but I'm guessing he's an old guy now and just enjoys being retired.
I used to love this guy's show when I was a lot younger. Oh, the bad jokes, the awful puns, and a Hong Kong accent that would put William Hung to shame, but this guy had the most manic energy and a genuine love for his craft and it shows. Adding a little bit of ethnic flavour to the morning lineups, he definitely knew his stuff.
I do recall at one point that he did have a chain of restaurants in the Vancouver area, but have since disappeared. Martin Yan (who apparently worked for Stephen at some point) doesn't capture the same amount of energy for my tastes.
Where is he now, I wonder? To Mr. Yan, good luck and keep on wokking, wherever you are.

I've only had Omni 2 for a couple of months now (Star Choice always had Omni 1, but not 2 until recently), and as soon as I noticed "Wok With Yan" was being played, I've tried not to miss a single episode. The show currently airs Monday to Thursday at 12:00 PM EST, by the way.
I always remembered that it was one of my favorite shows when I was young, and now I know why. Stephen Yan is a very funny (and often hyper!) man. I love the energy level of the show, especially the early ones. It's also fun to hear his pop culture references from the time and some of his more frequent tendencies (lots of stuff about pressure, saying "isn't it?" totally out of context, and giving the garbage to his "brother" under the counter). The recipes give us great tips and ideas, too!
I love this show and hope Omni 2 keeps playing it for a long time to come! :)

This is one of the best cooking shows ever to be put on TV in my opinion. He was not just a great cook but very funny and super nice, always smiling and full of energy and making sure us viewers were following along with his cooking and also that the live audience members who got to try his food were enjoying themselves and liking it. Great guy, great show!
I remember this show very well and very fondly, I would watch it with my mom any time I was able to do so and she watched it all the time, made some of his dishes (usually they were great) and would tell us some of the funny things he said and did. I just heard he passed away and I'm not sure if that is actually true but I hope not, he was such a likable and funny guy!
He had funny aprons all the time, many of them with fun puns on them (such as the show's title Wok with Yan). He was a fantastic cook and very skilled in the kitchen. I remember mom being very impressed one time when he just splashed some oil or other liquid into his wok and said "some people wonder if I'm actually doing a tablespoon but it comes with practice, look" and then he dumped the oil out from the pan into a measuring cup and it was the exact amount he needed. The best part though is even then he wasn't bragging or being fake or anything he was just an incredibly nice, genuine, funny person.
I wish this was still available somewhere or on in reruns. Thanks for this great show, Omni!
