After the premiere screening of the film in the Armenian capital, Yerevan, the audience reportedly applauded for 15 minutes, interrupted only by jeers for the Soviet government. At the time, Soviet troops were stationed in Yerevan in response to massive popular demonstrations regarding the status of the disputed Armenian-majority region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
