Quotes8

  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: [close to tears] God, Bobby, I need you! But if you can't stay away from her, stay away from me!
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: [as Jock approaches] Miss Ellie... who's Jenna Wade? I got the feeling this morning she's a delicate subject around me.
  • Miss Ellie Ewing: [as Jock sits down] She and her daddy were friends of ours quite a few years ago.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: And Bobby and she were particularly good friends?
  • Jock Ewing: Well, for a while there we all thought they we're gonna get married.
  • Miss Ellie Ewing: Jock!
  • Jock Ewing: Well, hell, nothing came of it, Ellie.
  • [to Pam:]
  • Jock Ewing: Like Ellie said, it was quite a while back.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: [smiles unperturbed] Right. A while back. Why, I've got better things to do than worry about old girlfriends. Bye-bye.
  • [leaves]
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: Do you happen to know where Bobby went?
  • J.R. Ewing: Yeah, he ran off to sign some papers for Jenna Wade, something about an apartment.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: Well, that's a name I seem to be hearing a lot of suddenly.
  • J.R. Ewing: Yeah, well, I wouldn't... I wouldn't read much into all that.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: In what?
  • J.R. Ewing: Well, the thing between Jenna and Bobby has been over some years now.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: [sweetly ironic smile] J.R., are you trying to comfort me?
  • J.R. Ewing: You mean he didn't tell you about her?
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: No, Bobby didn't tell me. But it seems the rest of the Ewings can't wait.
  • J.R. Ewing: [shrugs, smiles] Well, I'm just trying to help, you know.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: [big smile] I'm sure you are.
  • J.R. Ewing: Uh... if I can give a message when I see him...
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: [coldly polite] I can handle that. Thank you.
  • [goes off]
  • J.R. Ewing: Well, I was just trying to help. I...
  • [but he's alone]
  • Bobby Ewing: [at swimming pool] You are a very sound sleeper. You hardly even woke up when I came in last night.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: I'm usually asleep after midnight.
  • Bobby Ewing: Oh, honey, I know it was late, but she's an old friend.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: What did your old friend want that took so long?
  • Bobby Ewing: If you'd have asked me last night, I would have told you.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: [sweetly] If I'd asked you last night, I might have said some things I shouldn't have. Why don't you tell me about it now?
  • Bobby Ewing: [as Pam heads to pool-side chair] Honey, she needed some help moving things, and so I helped.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: [unimpressed] Hmm. That's very nice of you, Bobby.
  • [sits down]
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: [ex-girlfriend Jenna phoned again] What now, a spider in her tub?
  • Bobby Ewing: Anderson wants her to get out of town.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: Hey, let's hear it for Anderson!
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: [on horseback as Bobby returns] Hello.
  • Bobby Ewing: I'm sorry about lunch, Pamela.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: Had a good day?
  • Bobby Ewing: Not bad.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: Would you like to tell me how you spent it?
  • Bobby Ewing: Do you want it minute by minute, hour by hour, or just big, broad strokes?
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: [jumps off horse, fiery:] How about second by second? You haven't made it for dinner most of this week. And when I went by your office today, they didn't even know where you were.
  • Bobby Ewing: Charlie needed some things.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: [snarls:] *I bet she did!* This can't go on.
  • Bobby Ewing: There is nothing going on, Pamela, and I'm getting tired of explaining that.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: What you're explaining and what I'm seeing is two different things!
  • Bobby Ewing: You know, I can't even talk to you anymore. You're so twisted up with some kind of jealousy!
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: [vehemently] *That's not true! You know that's not true!*
  • [softly:]
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: Bobby, if it's the child... if she is your child, we can work something out... Other people do. I wouldn't ask you to run out on her.
  • Bobby Ewing: Just what are you asking?
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: That you not spend every day with Jenna. That you come home to me at the end of each day because you want to.
  • [tearfully:]
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: God, Bobby, I need you! But if you can't stay away from her, stay away from me!
  • Bobby Ewing: Is that the way you want it? Fine!
  • [jumps into car, pulls away with screeching tires, leaving her sobbing to horse]
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: It's awful watching somebody you love slide away. Bobby's known Jenna a lot longer and a lot of different ways. But I can handle Jenna. It's the little girl that worries me. The child could tip it. There, I may be out-matched, Miss Ellie.
  • Miss Ellie Ewing: If you take that attitude, you are. Jenna was never stoical about anything in her life. When she goes down, she goes down kicking and screaming.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: I don't think kicking and screaming will help.
  • Miss Ellie Ewing: I knew a woman once. Her man couldn't decide whether or not to do right by her. So, she took a horse-whip to him. Helped him make up his mind fast.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: I don't think a horse-whip would work with Bobby.
  • [smiles]
  • Miss Ellie Ewing: I don't see why not. It worked on his daddy all right.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: [laughs] Miss Ellie...
  • Miss Ellie Ewing: Of course... I really wanted his daddy.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: [with fire] I really want Bobby.
  • Miss Ellie Ewing: Then go get him!
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: [nods, with newfound clear direction] Yeah.
  • Jenna Wade: You two obviously wanna talk. I'd offer to leave, but it is my apartment.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: Is it?
  • Bobby Ewing: Yes, Pamela, it is.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: All right. Well, let's find out what else around here is hers.
  • Jenna Wade: Look, I've got a little girl asleep in there.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: Jenna, I have no intention of making a scene. Do you? No? Well, then, let's talk. I want to know where I stand, where you stand, where we all stand. And I want to know tonight.
  • Jenna Wade: Well, tonight's just as good a time as any, I suppose.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: All right. I love Bobby, and I want him. What do you want?
  • Jenna Wade: Bobby.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: Bobby? Or a husband, and a father for your child? Some security?
  • Jenna Wade: With Bobby, I get them all.
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: I prefer you got it with somebody else.
  • Bobby Ewing: Pamela, why don't you cut a deck of cards and roll the dice for me?
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: Come on, Bobby! Let's get down to basics! The child! Is Bobby the father of your child?
  • [Jenna lowers her eyes]
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: Because if he is, he'll do something about it. But it doesn't mean he's going to leave me for you.
  • [Jenna walks away, with Pam storming after her, yelling:]
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: Come on, Jenna, surely you know? Is Bobby the father?
  • Jenna Wade: [yells] I never said he was!
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: [yells louder] Is he?
  • Jenna Wade: [after much hesitation] No.
  • [Bobby looks down]
  • Pamela Barnes Ewing: That makes things a little more simple. Then it's between you and me. Only you can answer that, Bobby.
