Billie Piper and David Tennant in Doctor Who (2005)

Goofs

Rise of the Cybermen

Doctor Who

Edit

Continuity

When you see the Car pull up to Peter Tyler's mansion the number plate on the back of the car is different, even if a little blurry, to the front when it reads PETE 1.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

Lumic describes the human-to-cyberman conversion process as involving "a cradle of copyrighted chemicals". Copyright protects artistic works. Technological innovation is protected by patent.

In our world this it is true that copyright protects artistic works and technological innovation is protected by patent. However, this episode takes place in a parallel world, where Great Britain has a President. Copyright and patent law may be different.

Revealing mistakes

When Rose is typing on her phone, the type of phone that she has should mean that she should have to go through all of the letters on each button before getting to the right one, but in the episode this does not happen. Also throughout the typing sequence her thumb is on the 'ok' button the whole time, and her other hand is down by her side, meaning that there is no way she could have even written that in the first place.
Upon exiting the TARDIS, Mickey picks up a newspaper and declares the date to be the 1st of February. The foliage on the trees belie this, showing what would be a mid-autumn day in London.

Crew or equipment visible

A crewmember and a camera are reflected in Mickey's Gran's glasses when Mickey meets her.
Everytime we see a close up of Mickey's grandmother's face, we can see the crew and camera reflected in her glasses.

Errors in geography

Throughout the episode the country is referred to as Great Britain where it should be the United Kingdom, although of course it could be different in a parallel world.

Character error

In Rose (2005) when Mickey is presumed dead, Rose says, "I'll have to tell his mum." In "Rise of the Cybermen," Rose tells the Doctor that Mickey's mum "couldn't cope" and his dad disappeared, so Mickey was raised by his grandmother.
In the parallel Earth, Great Britain has a president, but the police officers still have the normal "royal" badge with a crown and E-II-R (Queen Elizabeth II) monogram.
