Drugs on The Donna Reed Show!?!?

You read that correctly. On this sweet innocent little show we have a drugs plot. This boy who is going to college with Jeff is under a lot of stress. This boy did very well in high school but is not doing well in college. He starts using "pep pills". I think this type plot would be very rare on a 1965 comedy show.
