    The color purple...

Purple. I think someone was having fun with this episode, as the color purple was VERY prevalently displayed. Joe Friday, uncharacteristically, wears a purple tie and at a meeting, two men wear purple suits. And, oddly, as the camera shows the police station, it's bathed in a purple hue at sunset. It certainly is pretty.

Friday and Gannon are meeting with a business organization. They are to talk about crime prevention and on the way there, they notice a lot of things about the local businesses that seem to invite crime. When they mention these to the group, the business people become defensive and are not at all receptive. However, when that same night a robbery happens EXACTLY like Friday had predicted, they are now much more willing to listen. Wouldn't it have been funny if later Gannon had said something like "it's a good thing we robbed that business...it sure helped make them more receptive!". But, unfortunately the show missed this opportunity! By the end of the show, the businesses seem to have seen the light and are working together--thanks to good ol' Friday and Gannon. The episode is decent but unremarkable--following the trend of season 3 to do community service type shows as opposed to letting the detectives shoot anyone (shucks!).
