When Friday and Gannon knock on Patty's door, the room is in the middle of a longer corridor, with more rooms off to the left of the door. When they enter the room, the room ends with a wall with a window to the left side of the room, instead of a wall with another room beyond along the corridor.
Friday stops a phonograph's operation by gruffly tossing its stylus arm aside, and its tip bounces far off the rotating album. This shows that it was a manual phonograph, not automatic nor repeating. Because the stylus was midway through the album side, it gives an indication of how long the music had been playing, about 15 minutes. The two policemen could have deduced that the girl had just started the music.
When the four detectives are at the office building to catch the pornographer, one says that the office is up on the fifth floor. As Friday approaches the elevator, he pushes the down button.
Friday and Gannon find Patty on a mattress asleep, unconscious or dead. They make no attempt whatsoever to figure out which of the three it is. No pulse taken, no checking for breathing and no calling an ambulance. No life saving steps taken at all. They simply waste time exchanging dialogue and taking turns reading her note.
