- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: [in hospital] There is no baby, Steven. I wasn't pregnant. I said I was because I thought I was, but I found out it was all in my mind. You believe me, don't you?
- Steven Carrington: Yeah, I believe you. I know how much you wanted that baby, how much it meant to you. And to Clay. He must be very disappointed.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: No. He was more like angry. He thought I was lying about being pregnant so that he'd have to marry me.
- Steven Carrington: Try to understand what he was feeling... at the time. He wanted the baby, right?
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: He sure did.
- Steven Carrington: Well, try to understand how hurt he must have felt.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Whatever he was feeling,
- [little sigh]
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: he walked out of here like I put a knife in him.
- Steven Carrington: [he takes her by the hand, shares her pain] It's all right. It's gonna be all right. It's funny, we've, uhm, had our problems, bad ones, but... somehow, I think... we still relate.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: [smiling happily] It's a good feeling.
- Steven Carrington: I'd better get back.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Steven? Will you give Danny lots of hugs and kisses for me? And tell him as soon as I get out of here, I'll come and see him.
- Steven Carrington: I will.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: And, Steven, I hope you hear some good news about Blake and Alexis real soon.
- Steven Carrington: Yeah, me too. Thanks. Bye.
- [she is all bright-eyed as he leaves]
- Clay Fallmont: Well, I was gonna come pick you up.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Well, I didn't think you could be there. In fact, I didn't even think you'd be here.
- Clay Fallmont: We live here, remember?
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: That's right. We're Mr and Mrs Fallmont, the not-so-happy newlyweds.
- Clay Fallmont: Sammy Jo, you've got to listen to me. I know why you're angry with me. I never should have said the things I did at the hospital.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: They're hard words to forget. God, they're hard to forget.
- Clay Fallmont: I know. But you gotta understand, I didn't know what I was saying, all I knew was that you were... gonna have our baby.
- [she turns to look up at him]
- Clay Fallmont: And that made me very proud.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Now let's get into my feelings. I realized at first you just wanted sex from me.
- Clay Fallmont: Oh, come on, that's not true!
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: You wanted to have sex, and you wanted to keep me away from your family, because you were ashamed of my background. But then you married me. I'd like to think that it was because you loved me, and that even if there were no baby, you still would have married me, but that isn't true, is it?
- Clay Fallmont: I did love you!
- [she lowers her eyes, bites her lip, and he hastily corrects himself:]
- Clay Fallmont: I do.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: I don't think so.
- [sighs]
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: I want an annulment, Clay.
- Clay Fallmont: That's crazy! Sammy Jo, all I want is for us to stay married... and be happy.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: [resolute] We're strangers to one another. I'm sorry, but I have to end this.
- Steven Carrington: What's up?
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: [little sigh] Clay and I are getting an annulment.
- Steven Carrington: I thought Clay had changed his mind.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: No, I changed my mind.
- Steven Carrington: Oh, I'm sorry, it's not easy.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Oh, it's for the best. Oh, Steven, you did mean it when you said I'd be able to see more of Danny, right?
- Steven Carrington: Of course I did. And... maybe... I could come with Danny out to Delta Rho, and the three of us could spend some time together.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: [smiling] For Danny? Fine.
- Steven Carrington: And for me.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: You?
- Steven Carrington: For the part of me that needs a family.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: [friendly laugh] I'd like that.
