Plot

Carter returns from Africa full of surprises including a new love, Makemba ("Kem"). Pratt accidentally breaks a patient's neck while doing an unsupervised intubation. A whole nursing shift cannot go home until they find one missing Valium.

Carter returns to County General to hearty welcomes. Although Abby is shocked to learn that Carter's beautiful African girlfriend, Kem, is already pregnant with Carter's child, Abby has moved on with her life as well, going back to medical school.—Anonymous

Carter is back in wintry Chicago, presenting his pregnant Kem -whose cooking the maid sees as a job threat- to the team and attends her ultrasound, learning it's a boy. Abby pretends to be fine with it, while struggling with her resumed medical studies. Luka patiently reassures Sam about fearlessly inquisitive rascal Alex, who even 'operates' on himself. Gallant is not amused to finds his visiting sister Valerie made love in his bed with Pratt, but the latter finds she leaves without intent to continue the 'fun' he assumed serious. College boy Martin Brody, who nagged for a turn to drive, worries after a crash about his corpulent father Larry, but the latter is fine after treatment, while ever-impetuous Pratt accidentally cracks a vertebrate, rendering the student paraplegic.—KGF Vissers
