    Battalion Delegate

The election for a new battalion delegate is coming up, the squad wants DeSoto but Gage wants to run also.

This is another good episode for Season Five. Gage and DeSoto have to rescue a man with his hand stuck in a drainpipe. Cliff Osmond plays the man's obnoxious brother in law, who is guzzling beers as he makes jokes. He suddenly gets a beer can pull tab stuck in his throat. The most interesting story is a little boy having seizures, his mother doesn't want to admit him, making Brackett thinks she is on the run. The boy ends up having Reyes Syndrome. A humorous scene has Sharon Gless as an angry sculptress with her model stuck in plaster. This was the same year she got a regular role on "Switch". The final rescue is one of the "dangler" ones on a crane.

    • Trivia
During the first rescue, in which a man's arm is stuck in a washing machine drainage pipe, the victim's brother-in-law is drinking several cans of beer. As he opens each beer, the brother-in-law would take the (detachable) pull tab and drop it into the beer can before consuming it. This was not an uncommon practice among soda and beer drinkers in the 1960s and early 1970s, when this style of pull tab was produced. In this scene, just as Station 51 makes themselves available, the brother-in-law accidentally swallows one of these pull tabs and aspirates, resulting in a trip to Rampart. This scene served as a safety reminder, one of several employed during the show's run, about the potential danger of old-style pull tabs. In 1975, a new - and safer - style of pull tab, called the "Sta-Tab" hit the market; the tabs on present-day beverage cans are based on this design.
    • Goofs
When squad 51 returns from their first run, the fire engine in the garage is the Crown rig from the first few seasons, and not the Ward la France.
