    No Sleep For Fred

Fred takes Dino to the vet, Dino's x rays are mistaken for Fred's.

A very funny Season 2 episode. It begins with a very sick looking Dino who won't eat. The vet explains that the x-ray shows that Dino has a dinosaur germ that will go away after some rest. He also says that if a human gets the germ it will be very serious. After another doctor gets the x-ray by mistake he tells Wilma that Fred needs to be kept awake for 72 hours. Many funny scenes as Wilma and the Rubbles keep him awake by dancing, ice skating and pouring cups of coffee down his throat.

    FRED HASN'T LONG TO LIVE!

This was another re-working of a HONEYMOONERS episode with Jackie Gleason. In that story, Ralph mistakes a letter from a vet, thinking it's for him, and he hasn't long to live!

Very similar stuff here, only involving Dino. An xray shows that Dino has a slight illness --but if a human gets it --likeFred --it would be fatal! Best scenes are when a doctor tells Wilma to keep Fred awake for three days! Outrageous stuff. Gotsta' see.

Even better with multiple viewings. The doctor is played by popular voice actor John Stephenson who was a staple in cartoons, doing voices for such shows as SCOOBY DOO for years, later the TRANSFORMERS.

Alan Reed as Fred has never been funnier. 10 Stars.

SEASON 2 EPISODE 15 originally aired in black and white, later remastered color.

    • Trivia
The Honeymooners (1955), on which "The Flintstones" is based, had a nearly identical plot line in A Matter of Life and Death (1955) in which Ralph thinks he has 6 months to live due to a mix-up with a veterinarian's report.
    • Goofs
The nurse writes Fred Flintstone's name at the top of the x-ray and spells his name aloud - correctly. When the x-ray is shown his name is incorrectly spelled Flinstone.
    • Quotes

Fred Flintstone: [carrying Dino] He hasn't lost any weight yet. That's a cinch. Okay, Wilma. I'll take him over to the V-E-T.

      Dino: Yipe!

Wilma Flintstone: Fred, you shouldn't have told him. You know he hates to go to the vet.

Fred Flintstone: Well, I didn't think he could spell!
