While waiting for Emily to open the door and talking about the fight Rory had with Paris in their fencing class, Lorelei says "if you want to make things right just go back school tomorrow and let her stab you". They are arriving for Friday night dinner so there would not be school tomorrow yet in the next scene after speaking with Emily, Rory is back at school.
When Emily puts the telephone down, then turns around, she is surprised to see Lorelai and Rory sitting down. She asks 'When did you two get here?'
Lorelai replies 'Sometime between the second 'absurd' and the third 'unbelievable'', but she wouldn't have known there were previous occurrences of the words 'absurd' and 'unbelievable' as they occurred before Lorelai and Rory arrived.
