Second of four to kick off the final season

"Florida's Homecoming" concludes its one hour broadcast with Florida anxious to meet Thelma's fiancée Keith, who will be making as much money as the President of the United States: "I hope he doesn't fumble as much!" As the man of the house, JJ must scramble to finance the wedding after Mr. Patterson (Robert Kya-Hill) is forced to terminate him, last hired, first fired. Calling upon Sweet Daddy Williams (Theodore Wilson, third of seven) to broker a loan, he has to soothe his ruffled feathers for not being invited to Thelma's wedding. Florida's calming influence shows itself when the bride and groom engage into their first spat.

The character of Carl Dixon was written out of the show at the request of Esther Rolle. He is briefly referenced in this episode but never mentioned again afterward. When Florida first returns from Arizona, Willona asks her about Carl and she shakes her head implying that he had passed away. Florida then gives Michael a book that she says is from Carl.
