    Percy Rodrigues and Kim Hamilton

"Florida's Rich Cousin" opens with James still stewing over his wife's gall bladder operation, which now includes JJ's dental bill of $325 for 'a mere 12 cavities!' Grounding everyone within earshot (even Willona!), James' foul mood does not improve at the thought of Florida inviting her cousin Edgar Edwards (Percy Rodrigues) over for dinner with his wife Betty (Kim Hamilton), fairly well off and usually able to grant a loan when the Evans family is particularly desperate. The proud James is especially stubborn this time, walking out on Florida before Edgar even shows up, still smarting at having to borrow money just like they did 20 years before. Edgar has a surprise for Florida, fired from his 20 year position for the past three months. Worst of all, he's had to lie to Betty about potential job prospects, leaving the house every day only to go to the movies. Percy Rodrigues is remembered by STAR TREK fans for the classic episode "Court Martial."

    Rich cousin, Poor cousin

The story is interesting. James doesn't want to borrow money from Florida's rich cousin. Why? His pride, what else? Everyone soon finds out that Cousin Edgar is out of work, and not much better off than James. That situation creates some dramatic moments, and gives Michael an opportunity to make another blatantly stupid racial remark. Michael is sure that Edgar was fired only "because he's black." Maybe not. Edgar confirms that six other guys were fired, and they were white. All this not withstanding, Edgar's wife was played by the lovely Kim Hamilton. I would have gladly taken the hugs and kisses she gave to Michael! Percy Rodriguez also very good as Cousin Edgar. A good episode with a downbeat ending.
