Michael's Decision

"Michael's Decision" finds the Evans family so cramped in their tiny apartment, with the plaster falling from the ceiling, that Michael feels it's time to leave the nest. A notice on his campus bulletin board puts him in touch with classmate Cindy Crebbins (Nancy Morgan), an advertisement for a roommate to share expenses. He announces his intent to leave just before Cindy drops by, revealing to an astonished Florida that not only does her son plan to live with a young woman, she is also white. Florida remains adamant that a boy and girl should not live together unless they are married, while Cindy's parents surprisingly offer their full support. We get a reference to former co-star John Amos from his role as Kunta Kinte in ROOTS, as Florida explains: "he makin' more money than all of us now!"
