Final appearance of Richard Ward as Grandpa Evans

"Something Old, Something New" marked the third and final appearance of Richard Ward as James' father Henry, from "The Family Tree" and "Grandpa's Visit." Henry has promised Lena Anderson (Paulene Myers, last of two), his girlfriend of four years, that if he ever came into some money he would finally marry her. All his years spent as a galley cook have paid off with a new food compressor that could mean millions, but his stubborn refusal to honor their commitment forces Lena to leave him at the Evans residence. It's easy enough to make up, especially since Lena already bought the wedding ring, the day after meeting Henry! Rev. Beasley (DeForest Covan) helps himself to the caviar, while the groom appears drunk for the ceremony, disappointed that his invention has been turned down. Henry and Lena end up husband and wife, with Thelma's wedding only months away to open next season.
