Alice Ghostley concludes the fourth chapter

"The Evans Get Involved" finishes its fourth chapter with Penny stunning Willona by asking to live with her. The childless divorcée loves the girl dearly, but taking on sudden motherhood is a tall order. Mrs. Hortense Dobbs (Alice Ghostley) has the final decision on Willona's potential adoption, with social workers asking questions about her background. Learning that single people have a more difficult time than marrieds with adoptions, Bookman figures he can help by posing as Willona's husband. Fortunately, he confesses his deception so that Mrs. Dobbs can conclude that Willona's home is the right one for the abandoned Penny. The Evans family also decides to stick around rather than head out West to join their remarried mother. Florida's absence would be acutely felt as the season progressed, finally returning for the final season, while Alice Ghostley would return as Hortense Dobbs, finalizing the adoption in "Penny's Christmas."
