    silly, easygoing fun

"Goosebumps" episodes were hardly ever scary, even as a little kid, and many of them were often quite comical. "You Can't Scare Me" is perhaps one of the most lighthearted and humorous entries of the "Goosebumps" cannon. It makes me laugh both unintentionally and intentionally, which makes for an emotionally confusing, but highly entertaining ride. The characters are not realistic, the dialogue is corny, and the acting is kind of mixed (the girl who plays Courtney is very funny and quite competent overall), but mostly pretty bad or at least kind of mediocre. And yet, there's so much charm and energy here that it makes me too happy to really criticize it. It's not scary, and it's hardly ever even supposed to be. The main intent of "Goosebumps" is not horror or even humor-but FUN! Episodes like these are all about having a good time, and I cannot help but find their enthusiastic grinning to be extremely watchable and amusing.

    We all know a Courtney

And if you don't know one... you are one. Decent goosebumps thriller with good effects and a relatable storyline.

    • Quotes

Courtney: Isn't it interesting? That people keep on trying something that have no chance of succeeding. Here we have two adolescents of average or below intelligence trying to outwit an adolescent of much higher then average intelligence. I'm not bragging. I'm just stating the facts. But what really is interesting is your persistence- what keeps you going. It reminds me of some lab rats I once saw in some science experiment.

      Eddie: Lab rats?

Courtney: They keep on shocking the poor little things, but they keep on insisting to have their food pellet.

      Eddie: Can you believe her?

Courtney: Kind of pathetic when you think about it.

[the Mud Monster comes up behind Courtney]

      Hat: M-mud!

      Courtney: Mud?

      Eddie: M-monster!

[Eddie and Hat point behind Courtney]

Courtney: Oh-ho! A mud monster. A Mud Monster is behind me. I see.

[Courtney turns around and the Mud Monster is staring at her growling]

      Courtney: You are right.

[the Mud Monster growls at her, Courtney points her finger at the Mud Monster]

Courtney: Uh-uh. Don't interrupt. I can feel your anger.

      Eddie: What?

Courtney: [to the Mud Monster] That's what we need to look at. Now, isn't that better? Now we have to talk about your aggressive behavior.

      [the Mud Monster sighs]

Courtney: You can't expect symphony from people if your always attacking them, you know. Well-adjusted monsters just don't do those sorts of things. Correct me if I'm wrong, but inside this monster we all see I think we have an emotionally wounded creature. It wasn't until I admitted to myself that there was nothing wrong with being perfect, that I was able to totally accept myself... it means to work on your self-growth and definitely do something about your impulsive behavior. Here me out. Hello there. Hello.

[the Mud Monster has grown bored with Courtney's long speech and has fallen asleep]
