    1956 Presidential Election

Richie campaigns for Adlai Stevenson to impress cute blonde Debbie.

Another very funny Season 2 episode. Howard is a staunch Eisenhower supporter and is shocked at Richie's choice of candidate. They have some funny arguments. The best scene is when Richie gives a speech for Stevenson at a youth rally at Arnolds. Howard looks forward to the speaker for Ike and it turns out to be Fonzie, who just says things like "My bike likes Ike". In the crowd is a heckler played by the director Jerry Paris, he previously played Jerry Helper on "The Dick Van Dyke Show".

    • Quotes

Richie Cunningham: I think Stevenson is the better man.

Howard Cunningham: Better man? Stevenson's been divorced. He can't even run his own family! Now, how do you expect him to run the country? Listen, when a man is asking to run the whole country, he better be able to lay his whole life open to criticism. And I'll tell you why you should be for Ike. Because I'm for Ike.

Richie Cunningham: Well, I don't think that's a good enough reason.

Howard Cunningham: My family has been Republican ever since there have been Republicans. Now, how's that for a reason?

Richie Cunningham: Well, if you want to know the truth, I'd say it's pretty narrow-minded.
