    The great Helen Hayes!

Helen Hayes played Agatha Christie's Miss Marple a couple of times, and here she does a mite of sleuthing, but then plays a key undercover role later!

Of course, Helen Hayes was James MacArthur's mother (he was adopted) and my wife and I wondered if she'd visited him in Hawaii before and the producers finally said, "Hey, if you're going to be here, you should appear in an episode!"

However she wound up being cast, she gave her normal wonderful performance as Dano's aunt.

We also have Charles Durning, who I always have greatly appreciated, notably on Evening Shade and his role as the Governor of Texas in Best Little *** in Texas. Sadly, his talents are a bit wasted in this role. Just about anyone could have played the crooked Rest Home owner. He did add a few little touches of his own, though.

The crime is also interesting, but it didn't really have to be. Any story would have been a suitable backdrop for Helen Hayes' appearance. However, they did a good job crafting a crime and a plot for her "old lady" role. Her question to McGarrett and his expression in response at the end is worth the price of the episode. :-)

I see some of my fellow fans also think highly of the episode, and rightly so! Helen Hayes!

    Helen Hayes

Whatever she was in was always made better. It's true in this episode. A pleasure to watch. Particularly in the first scene with Jack Lord b

Too bad she never made a return visit to the show.

Sweet story featuring mother and son

I was extremely excited for this episode because it features actress Helen Hayes alongside her real-life son, James MacArthur.

This story is absolutely adorable. Danno's Aunt Clara arrives in Hawaii for a visit and accidentally gets roped into a shady scheme when her newfound friend, Mr. Miller, suddenly disappears without a trace. Aunt Clara begs Danny and Five-O to look into it, but no one takes her seriously-until Mr. Miller turns up dead. What follows is a series of fun shenanigans as Aunt Clara helps Five-O uncover the details of the case.

I won't spoil the whole episode (because it's very much worth watching), but one of the biggest delights is seeing James MacArthur interact with his mother, Helen Hayes. He has the cutest little giveaway looks when he's with her, and you can tell he's genuinely happy to be in her presence. Their moments together are so sincere, you can't help but melt. The opening scene where Danno greets his Aunt Clara as she gets off the flight is so wholesome it turned me into a slushy mess.

Helen Hayes-what can you even say about her? She's perfect as the sweet yet sly Aunt Clara. You just have to love her. What a charming actress.

To sum it up, this is a delightful episode that will warm your heart, it's definitely one of my favorites of the season.

Danny's aunt Clara is played by Helen Hayes, who is the real life adoptive mother of James MacArthur.
    • Goofs
In the hotel room Danny is careful to use a handkerchief while opening the medicine cabinet. But he holds the victim's medicine bottle with his bare hand before putting it in an evidence bag.

Since he holds it carefully by the knurled cap, there would be no liftable finger prints on such a surface.
