Dangerous Eden

Audrey Totter completists might decie to skip this one. She's stuck in a long black wig and the lighting - unlike great studio chiaroscuro - washes out her 42-year-old face. In a few shots she's hoarse, maybe she had a bad cold for a week, maybe that's why she's so listless. Or is it tthe tedious script and continuity errors? The highpoint comes at.31:55, when the tall callow detective takes a pretzel from a bowl on the bar counter, breaks it in two, eats one, and puts the other back in the bowl. Audrey Totter did much better the next year in an Alfred Hitchcock episode, Madam Mystery, restored to her blondeness, but playing a wildcat tomboy so different from her icy Nordic Noir bad gals.

Show was before my time, but my parents loved it. The "Shell Bar" house band reminds me a lot of Martin Denny and his Island music from the 50s. Hollywood hijinks in the islands with Jackie Coogan in a pre Adams Family guest shot. Show highlight was Connie Steven's tricking Conrad into singing " I've got a crush on you" Actually he's pretty good, but the eye contact when singing is cringeworthy. Pretty predictable plot lines with a little twist and some rough and tumble clumsy fight scene. Love the chance to see Connie Steven's and Bob Conrad as a couple of youngsters. Give it a watch, it's worth your time!
