The end credits contain the dedication "In memory of Jerry Siegel," who died in January 1996, three months before this episode aired. Siegel was the creator of Superman, a comic book character based partly on the original Hercules myth. The episode plot has the feeling of some of Superman's "special" stories, often produced for a decade anniversary or some similar milestone. These stories often involved a "gang's all here" theme, where a landmark event happened in Superman's life, justifying cameo appearances from a large number of guest characters from his past.

Goofs
When Hercules is cutting through the organs and nerves of the sea monster, he moves several rounded objects around; at least 2 of them bounce and float, revealing themselves as balloons.
