I've seen most of the rebooted "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" episodes from the 1980s and a major problem I find in the shows is that so many of them are remakes. I think at least half the shows are remakes and in most cases, the shows aren't as good as the originals. In the case of "Pen Pals", I didn't like the original very much...so perhaps the remake can't help but be better! Right?!
Jean Simmons stars in this one. When the show begins, a police detective arrives at her home. It seems that the lady's niece has been corresponding with a guy in prison...and he recently escaped. They are curious is perhaps the niece knows where he is...or perhaps might be with him. After the cop leaves, the escapee arrives...and you assume bad things are gonna happen as he begins threatening and manhandling her.
The remake had a big plus...Miss Simmons, who was a terrific actress. Unfortunately, the plot itself isn't great because the twist was very predictable. Still, it's not bad and is an improvement over the first.
