    AN OLD BOYFRIEND AND MURDER?

Best described as a cop show episode slash soap opera, and very interesting, including Betty.

One of the two Lorenzo brothers who own a restaurant is killed, and the surviving brother asks Barnaby for help. A rather routine case, except an employee, a short-tempered guy called Vince (played by Gary Collins), may be the lead suspect -- AND at one time was Betty's boyfriend?

Great writing by Dick Nelson, who had a lengthy list of credits, including NAME OF THE GAME and TJ HOOKER. Also a bit of suspense here when Vince's wife, Nora (played by Diana Hyland) tries to shoot Betty. A series first.

An excellent mystery, pulling out all the stops, dynamic performances by Hyland and Dick Van Patten, both who would star in EIGHT IS ENOUGH. Hyland, who was battling cancer at the time, bravely worked as long as she could. Stewart Moss portrays Carl, another member of the smooth bad guy society. His style reminded me of Bradford Dillman.

Look for Loni Anderson (as Dee Dee) whose career was going places, soon to co-star on WKRP.

Can you figure this one out by mid way?

From SEASON 4 EPISOE 20 remastered CBS/Paramount dvd box set. 21 hrs total.
