An excellent showcase for Meredith Baxter, whose career was taking off about this time.
Meredith plays Jenny, a woman looking for love but with lots of bad kharma tied to anybody who comes her way. All her boy friends turn up dead, except for one young man, who was supposed to take a fatal fall off a horse, but left paralyzed. Could he have something to do with it?
This one will keep you guessing. Directed by Robert Douglas, who at the time was directing both CANNON and the FBI. Best known for playing villains in many film classics, later becoming a popular tv director.
Special appearance by Ida Lupino, playing Jenny's aunt, who hires Barnaby. Lupino was also a successful director. Christopher Connelly has a very good role as Doug, the one guy lucky to be alive, but is he really that lucky?
I agree with the notes; the boat explosion DOES look animated. No room in the budget to sink a yacht. The production crew obviously borrowed the idea from MANNIX, an authority on explosions A to Z. A creative bunch.
Beautifully filmed at the historic town of Piru, California, about 50 miles north of Los Angeles. The population in 2020 was 2100. Could only imagine how many folks lived there in the 70s when this was filmed. Also production work done at nearby Santa Paula, another gorgeous spot.
The ending is totally unexpected, though you may catch it (couple of clues) by the second half. You be the judge.
SEASON 2 EPISODE 15 remastered CBS/Paramount dvd box set. This box set is often sold out, perhaps not enough copies were made, but it is available.
