What If Our Brave Heroes Lost Their Nerve?

"The Professor Of Fear" a.k.a. "The Scarecrow," is the villain in this one, so you know it's going to be very interesting and colorful. He demonstrates what can happen if the headline above came true.

The "professor" has invented a powdery substance that when handled, produces abnormal fear in the person when his/her adrenalin starts pumping. He uses it on professional athletes with interesting results and Robin gets a "taste" of it, too. With the athletes, The Scarecrow is cleaning up with bookies, betting against these stars. One of the athletes is Robin's roommate so he, too, gets the power on his hands and now he's not helping Batman. Will he be cured?

This is another fun show with some nice artwork and direction and some incidental good moments like a quick glimpse at the other villains all in jail: The Joker, Poison Ivy, Two-Face, etc.

"The Scarecrow" is one of the more interesting characters on this show, I think.

    The Progenitor of Fear

Where has Robin been all this time. He is front and center here. Scarecrow, who uses fear against people, has developed a chemical that makes people terrified under pressure. He is sending dust in telegrams and then betting on games that should be a sure thing. He is raking in the money. Robin, whose Dick Grayson, has a great football player as a roommate in college, gets some of the stuff, and he falls apart in critical moments. Batman smells out the perpetrator and goes after him, but he is slippery and threatens to dump his stuff on a stadium full of fans. It's a good episode. I'm just getting to know some of the villains that most of us don't see.

In Arkham Asylum as Batman walks towards the Scarecrow's cell, he walks past Joker, Poison Ivy and Two-Face; they're depicted wearing their criminal attire, as incarcerated patients they should all be wearing institutional uniforms and not their costumes.
    • Quotes

The Scarecrow: There's enough powder in that helmet to panic a pachyderm! He should be prostrating himself, crying for mercy!

      Batman: Change of luck, Scarecrow?

      The Scarecrow: You!

Batman: You're aware that gambling is illegal in Gotham?

The Scarecrow: I need the money, Batman. You know the cost of chemicals these days.
