A comic story, Batman: Gotham Adventures #4 sets up the "Lost Year", published to coincide with this series explains why Selina Kyle has black hair instead of blonde (as she did in Batman: The Animated Series (1992)). Apparently, she's a natural brunette who used to dye her hair blonde, until she found out her preferred brand of hair dye was tested on animals; she permanently scarred the firm's owner, Amy Mercedes, and never dyed her hair again.
