    Grim subject matter

Bergerac meets with Aaron Rosenbaum, a Jewish Nazi hunter who believes a Jersey resident is a war criminal.

Things take a turn for the dark here. Rosenbaum talks about how Muller's crimes are too great for anyone to comprehend and the scene where Bergerac, but not the viewer, sees a video of concentration camp atrocities conveys the horror of what we're dealing with. Bergerac and Rosenbaum make a good partnership until bureaucracy gets involved. Crozier's utter disinterest is perhaps very much of its time, before enthusiasm to punish aging war criminals was increased.

Hungerford, this week organising a music festival which plays into the case, has a few good moments but Susan's role seems to be the same in each episode, being irritable with Jim and any progress being forgotten by next week. Goodness only knows what poor Louise Jameson made of it all.

The great John Bennett stands out amongst the guest cast as a character who is simultaneously sympathetic and ruthless, sparking well with John Nettle. The identity of his target is no surprise (who else would it be?) but there's a couple of nice twists...and one that the episode seems to think is a twist even though we've already been told it!
