10 Stars.
Plenty of memories here, especially if you're a Roy Clark fan. At the time, Roy was a rising country star, master of the guitar and banjo -- a super guest for this show. We kids loved him. Also a comedian, even while playing the guitar.
Cousin Roy (and check out his fancy threads) gets a talent agent(?), none other than Jethro? By the way, Jethro's Hollywood colors and 60s hairdo are a hoot! Opal Vils, the wardrobe and makeup dean, is to be congratulated. Roy entertains everybody with his incredible guitar pickin,' and there's a fun scene where Jed, Granny, Elly and Cousin Bessie (the monkey) are doing the CHOO CHOO train slow dance. A mini classic.
There's mention of some 60s groups here, like the Strawberry Alarm Clock and the Animals, who inspire Jethro. Roy makes his debut with a NEW outfit and wig -- positively outrageous, singing "The Great Pretender." Cousin Bessie is also part of his group?
Really, Really goofy, thanks to producer and writer Paul Henning, also Dick Wesson, who wrote many classic episodes for the show and appeared in bit parts. Judith Jordan plays Babs and Pamela Rodgers guest stars, who would soon join the cast of LAUGH IN.
If you're a music buff, a few months after this episode, Roy Clark recorded "Yesterday, When I Was Young," a super hit, peaking at Number 19 on the charts.
See this one.
Thanks much to METV. SEASON 7 EPISODE 18 remastered. According to Amazon, seasons 6 through 9 are expected to be released on blu ray in 2027.
