    THE HILLBILLY BONNIE AND CLYDE.

The definition of a classic tv sitcom episode.

Producers and writers Paul Henning and Buddy Atkinson worked with bluegrass stars Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs (who wrote the series theme music), saluting their unforgettable score in the hit film, BONNIE AND CLYDE.

Comes the idea! How about a mini take-off on Bonnie and Clyde? Jethro and Elly dress up as 30s gangsta's, mistaken for robbers at Mr. Drysdale's bank? You have to watch the insanity play out, a real deal treat. Best of the best is the appearance of Lester Flatt and his wife Gladys (played by beautiful Joi Lansing) and their slick version of Bonnie and Clyde. The wardrobe department, manager Opal Vils deserves credit for the stylish threads. Should have been an Emmy nom somewhere along the way,

Does anyone get arrested? Without giving too much away, Mr. Drysdale DOES. And Miss Jane had to have the biggest laugh of all.

Flatt and Scruggs play their classic rendition of "Foggy Mountain Breakdown." Fine direction (as always) from Joseph Depew.

SEASON 7 EPISODE 9 remastered. According to Amazon, seasons 6 through 9 are expected to be released on blu ray by 2027. Thanks to METV for running these golden oldies every day.

    • Trivia
The title refers to the fact that by the time this episode aired, the Flatt and Scruggs version of the instrumental bluegrass classic "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" had become very popular due to its inclusion on the soundtrack of the recently released hit film Bonnie and Clyde (1967). The duo perform it in this episode, as well as two alternate versions of the series' theme song, "The Ballad of Jed Clampett," each with different lyrics. Joi Lansing, who portrays Flatts' blond bombshell wife Gladys, also performs a vocal selection, backed by the duo.

      Jed Clampett: Whatcha doin'. boy?

Jethro Bodine: Learnin' this ol' hound dog to fetch sticks.

Jed Clampett: Seems to me you been at that about 10 years now.

Jethro Bodine: Yeah, I reckon he's just too dumb.

Jed Clampett: He's just too smart.

      Jethro Bodine: Whatcha mean?

Jed Clampett: What do Duke want with sticks? He ain't no beaver.

Jethro Bodine: But other dogs fetch sticks.

Jed Clampett: That's their problem. Duke's got you to do it fer him.
