Historical and hilarious, fun to see the Clampett buggy driving around England. The famous castle episodes were filmed on location, amid lots of publicity, and the cast made the most of it. An episode back in the day, tagged Must See TV.
There are several phenom shots of legendary Penshurst Place, doubling as Clampett Castle. The real castle, with an amazing story, was built in 1341. Absolutely outrageous to see Jed, Granny, Elly and Jethro pull up to the castle in the old buggy -- and Jethro riding around the stately grounds on horseback as a knight? American and British TV history for the books.
Imaginative writing by producers Paul Henning and Buddy Atkinson who pulled every trick in the book. They accomplished their mission. May be the BEST latter episode of the entire series.
The nutty story is all about Jed presumably acquiring the "deed" to Canada(?), very much wanting to return the country to the Queen? Mr. Drysdale -- going insane -- plans a clever switch by forcing poor Miss Jane to pose as the Queen(?) and settle everything once and for all? Bottom line: KEEP Jed's millions in his bank.
Meanwhile, Granny wants to protect the castle in wake of the fabled "War of the Roses" and trains the servants as the NEW "Dirty Dozen?" Check out the chef, replete with white hat and a sword. Laugh out loud scene, directed by Joseph Depew.
Good job by makeup artist Roy Stork and hair stylist Frances Sperry, re-creating Nancy Kulp as the Queen. Check out Mr. Drysdale's classy camp costume.
Guest star is British character actor Richard Caldicot, playing Faversham. Richard appeared in seven episodes, also guesting on the AVENGERS at the time.
Question; Does any of this remind you of BENNY HILL?
SEASON 7 EPISODE 3 remastered for tv. According to Amazon, seasons 6 through 9 are planned to be released on blu ray by 2027.
