    Aunt Clara's replacement

When Marion Lorne passed away, there was no more Aunt Clara. Instead of re-casting the character, they decided to give us Alice Ghostley as Esmeralda. This was pretty much Aunt Clara, in a different form. Thanks a lot! Another bumbling, inept character with a dynamic that got old very fast. This was the second episode with Dick Sargent as Darrin. Next to Samantha's pretty face, Sargent's presence was the best thing about the episode. Sargent definitely put a different spin on "Darrin," and it was a pretty good spin.

    Meet Esmeralda

Endora gives Samantha an new maid, Esmeralda, a nervous witch.

A good episode, Alice Ghostley makes her debut as Esmeralda, a replacement for the late Marion Lorne. She was never as funny as bumbling Aunt Clara though. Esmeralda fades away and sometimes zaps things up when she sneezes. One thing is a unicorn. There are two pop culture references to songs here. Tabitha calls the unicorn Puff The Magic Pony. Sam says there are no more unicorns since they missed the boat on Noah's Ark. This is a reference to the Irish Rovers' song "The Unicorn".
