Knave of Diamonds, Ace of Hearts

Alex Blacke (Hal Linden) is approached by Oliver Baron (Hurd Hatfield) who wants to prove that his vault is not impenetrable as it is claimed to be. Alex turns down the offer, but as a challenge he etches out a plan in his head and airs it - which his father, Leonard, decides to do while his son is out of town, with the help of some shady pals.

The next day, valuable gems are reported missing. When the police arrive, Leonard offers to show them where they are. And when they open the vault they find Baron dead and the gems, which Leonard left in an ashtray after taking them out of the vault, gone. When Alex returns he bails Leonrad out, but then Alex gets framed for the murder and he goes on the run - father and son try to the real killer.

Quite a lively episode which finds father and son - a magician and an ex-convict - knee deep into trouble. Well, the father ( Harry Morgan) sets the wheels rolling on that score. You always get the feeling that Alex is the father and Leonard is the child. The banter is great and the story quite well done and entertaining.
