    The friendship

The Cartwrights convince the prison warden to free 23-year-old chain-gang convict, Danny Kid, imprisoned since he was an orphan of thirteen, and take him on as a ranch-hand to repay him for saving Little Joe from being dragged to death by a spooked horse.

Of course, Danny struggles with the transition from life from the "Inside" to the "outside", and it doesn't help that there are some who want to provoke him into reacting in a violent manner. A couple of bullies at a dance coax him into a fight-Little Joe stops him killing one guy. Danny's rage is intense. Then the teasing girl winds him into more trouble ...

A good episode about second chances and the adjustment from prison to freedom and its obstacles - it's well acted by Dean Jones. That sense of detail in his character is well done.

Joe & Danny Kidd both learn good lessons in life.

Damn good Bonanza story of Joe and Danny Kidd; Kidd saves Joe and Joe fights for Danny release from prison. Both have to adjust to each other and the give and take of everyday life. Very good story of second chances and friendship. I fully enjoyed this episode.

Little Joe is dragged by his horse, presumably because his foot is stuck in the stirrup. Once the horse comes to a stop, we clearly see that his ankle is hitched to the saddle with a strap and snap. When the angle changes, we see that Joe takes his foot loose from the stirrup (no strap).
