    Joe Namath Guest Stars

Bobby makes up stories to his friends about knowing Joe Namath.

An amusing Season 5 episode. It begins with a funny dream sequence where Bobby leaps in the air to catch the "bomb" from Namath. After hearing about Mike Connors (then starring in "Mannix") visited a sick fan, Cindy sends a letter to Namath saying Bobby is very sick. Joe shows up at the house and Bobby moans and groans to appear sick.

GET ME JOE NAMATH ON THE PHONE, PLEEEZE!

Director Bruce Bilson applied his magic to this legendary story, which SHOULD have been the premier episode of season 5!

It's one of those bragging rights tales, this time all about football fan Bobby who tries to impress his buds with stories about knowing Joe Namath?

It's actually fairly clever, and could have worked back in the day --and with less security. Cindy gets into the act, suggesting they write Joe a letter, telling him all about Bobby, his biggest fan, being so terribly ill. He may not make it!

It's a 50/50 shot, but it works and Joe Namath is at the Brady house. Classic scene has way, way surprised Alice answering the front door and meeting Joe! A must see.

Without fail, Bobby has a lot of 'splainin' to do, but you have to give the kid credit (and Cindy, too) for coming up with one wild idea in the first place.

It's slick stuff, Brady Bunch style. Not to be missed. Bruce Bilson was the right guy to direct this campy stuff, behind such tv classics as GET SMART.

And I am sure to this day, between all his historical achievements, Joe Namath is STILL asked about this episode. Ya think?

SEASON 5 EPISODE 2 remastered ABC/Paramount dvd box set.

    • Trivia
When Bobby and his friends are playing football in the backyard, they all take turns drinking from the garden hose. During the scene, each boy put his face up to the hose, but never got close to the water.
    • Goofs
Shortly after the start of the program, Cindy walks past Bobby and his three friends while she is holding a full avocado-green household plastic trash can, probably on her way toward the garbage pail outside. Seconds later, in a new camera angle, Cindy turns to talk to Bobby, but the green trash can is now gone.
