When Dan Flood arrives in town and Frank Kelton - a rancher- is warned that Flood is in town. Kelton arrives in town as Bronco and Flood tangle in the bar over a spilled drink. Seeing Bronco whip Flood gives Kelton an idea. He hires Bronco for $500 to protect him from Flood by tailing Flood. Seeing easy money Bronco accepts the job and sticks close to Flood, who made a small fortune in the gold rush, and they even party well into the night forcing Bronco to stay up with him.
Next day Flood runs into Kelton and his wife, and Bronco steps in, stopping Flood from killing Kelton. Later, Kelton's daughter comes to Bronco saying her father is dead. Bronco who has been with Flood all day goes to the ranch with Flood. They find Kelton apparently dead on the floor. Bronco feels obligated to find the killer.
But Kelton's daughter comes forward, claiming she shot her father, but Bronco doesn't buy it and questions Kelton's wife and she confesses in killing her husband ... but Bronco believes that Kelton was killed by a bullet.
Top notch episode that features a great performance by Alan Hale .Jr who has a vendetta. He's in town to kill Kelton for stealing his wife and declaring him dead. The plot is very strong and has some good mystery with a good twist. It's never explained why the wife shot husband but I think the husband was interested in his daughter, hence his possessiveness over her. Quite heady for its time you would think, but it's not so when the revelation comes out at the end.
