He comes back with his supermodel/spy wife who he married on the rebound, and doesn't even say "Sorry about your Mother"? Even Amy the Rat had that much courtesy.
I liked him much better when he was on the first time. Most people didn't, but I saw a subtle sense of humor and an appreciation of Buffy's strength that made me like him, plus he was the only one who she could have a "normal", healthy relationship. If I'd ever played MFK regarding Buffy's 3 serious boyfriends, it would have been Marry Riley, F Spike, Kill Angel. Parker doesn't count because he was just a "hit it and quit it" player.

Buffy did choose Riley in Season 4. He wasn't too boring. She also dated him in Season 5. Last I checked he broke up with her cause he didn't like how strong she was (as if the slayer could just stop) and because he didn't think she gave him enough attention while her mother died and her sister was being chased by a hell Godess. Such a nice guy. Maybe nice is bare minimum, everybody should always be nice, not a personality trait that entitles a man to a woman who's just not that into him. Women will choose the man they fall in love with, not the one who who thinks is entitled to her. As for Spike: last I checked he's a vampire. Also one who was actually there for Buffy when she needed him instead of acting entitled. Cope.
Riley returns and he's married to a stunning woman who fights demons with him. When he shows up, he tells Buffy nothing--about his marriage and what these demons are up to. The whole thing is really sort of bland. It turns out that Spike is the one who Riley needs to see. He is the egg man. Riley catches Buffy with Spike in bed and realizes that this is what she needs (not in a good way). Riley meets up with the Scoobies and company and there is a sense of adulation. It is here where Buffy finally realizes that she has to be done with Spike even if she may love him because together they are destroying the future. I just never got into this one.
