Not as bad as some make out, but small things annoy

1: Buddy is sick but her makeup is perfect 2. Doctors don't inject into arm veins at a 90 degree angle, they'd miss.

    3. Injecting into a port without closing off the I've Line above it means the substance will largely backflow into the bag instead of into the patient.

    Follows a tough act...

This episode follows one of the best (or maybe THE best) Buff episode to date, so it's a tough act to follow, esp. When all we want it more, more, more Angel, Spike and Drusilla. That said, if I JUST review it as a standalone monster episode, it's still a little boring to me.

    Better than the IMDb Rating

I had fond memories of this episode, and upon rewatching it, it hooked me even more. I really don't understand why this isn't one of the better regarded episodes in the fan base, but I guess it will just remain a personal favorite.

I thought the character work was particularly engaging, even compared to surrounding episodes, the atmosphere was tense and held me in a grip that didn't let up till he credits.

    A rather mediocre filler episode

Buffy is hospitalized for the flu after she gets an elevated temperature that causes her to pass out. On the first night, when her fever is high, she sees a strange looking man, not quite human, following a little boy along the hallway. Later, the little boy is being taken from his room, dead, although apparently from natural causes.

The next day, when the Scoobies visit Buffy, she tells them about what happened and asks them to research her demon. There is some doubt among the ranks that Buffy might be trying to conjure up a demon that she can actually fight since she can't fight death and disease, plus there is the very recent death of Miss Calendar at the hands of Angelus that she failed to stop.

To me, this episode is just boring. The demon is not that interesting and the whole thing seems stagebound by the hospital setting and Buffy's illness. I give it a 6/10 because it has a few good scenes in it - Cordelia flirting with a very non descript hospital security guard so Xander can do some recon and Xander courageously standing up to Angelus when he tries to get past Xander to get into Buffy's hospital room when she is first brought in and is basically helpless. Finally there is Cordelia's unique definition of "tact" - "Tact is just not saying true stuff"

    Who Is This Guy?

Buffy gets the flu. She has a confrontation with Angel. She is exhausted and beaten. So she is in the hospital, recovering. Suddenly, she finds herself in the middle of a situation where children are being killed by an invisible guy (really an ugly one). Because he is invisible he goes to the rooms of sick children and sits on their chests until they suffocate. Buffy is only able to see him when she has a high fever. I guess the problem is that there is no reason for that guy to be there. I mean, why does he exist and what does he gain killing children? There is enough tension to make the episode watchable, but even in this fantasy world, why is he there?

    • Quotes

Angelus: If I decide to walk into Buffy's room, do you think for one microsecond that you can stop me?

Xander Harris: Maybe not. Maybe that security guard couldn't either. Or those cops. Or the orderlies. But I'm kind of curious to find out. You game?

Angelus: Buffy's white knight... You still love her.

      [leans toward Xander's ear]

Angelus: It must just eat you up that I got there first.

Xander Harris: You're gonna die. And I'm gonna be there.

Angelus: Tell her I stopped by.
