A trio of Nordic terrorists, led by extremist Alkmaar, attempt to break into the Austin Institute to steal Newton, a dog experimented on with cybernetic technology.
All sense of reality jumped ship some time ago - the plots from series one now seem everyday, run-of-the-mill. What we have now is pure sci-fi, a plot worthy of the Torchwood team.
Schrödinger's Bomb was insane, and this isn't far behind - but at least it's somewhat cohesive. Assembling a plot here didn't feel like trying to build a pyramid from a weekly subscription magazine called Egyptology Made Simple.
The show has mostly avoided feeling silly... until now. It's as if someone story-boarded three elements - Newton the dog, Wence's return, and exploding warheads - and tried to cobble them together with a narrative. It doesn't quite work.
We've got Nordic terrorists, and the leading villain sports a thick Scottish accent. As much as I adore George Rossi's dulcet tones, he sounds about as Norwegian as Dame Vera Lynn.
Credit where it's due: Newton is a chilled-out character. Perhaps it would have been more fun with a sassy Chihuahua. At this point, even Schrödinger's cat would be hiding under the couch.
A bit daft, but still entertaining.
6/10.
